Yeah, can do. I suppose it depends who turns up when if we'll get to play it. We could arrange a separate session for it if we don't get a chance.

Not sure what I'm doing today but I expect I'll be down early afternoon, perhaps 1ish, unless I decide to nip home midday for lunch in which case it'll be later. Up for anything.

Spies won - Jeff, Kes and Richard were the wrong 'uns.

Yeah, Adam, you missed the two vital plays. Jeff was pretty ballsy to show his card to another spy and expect them to lie for him under the spotlight — thanks to Richard for failing to pull that off convincingly Razz. When Dave had everyone sussed but me and Kes on the last round, the game came down to a "Pick me—" "No, pick me!", the result going to the spies. I won't hold it against you Dave.

As far as secret roles games go, I think I preferred the weird German one that I didn't catch the name of. I guess Resistance is designed so that by the end of the game cross referencing all the clues can never amount to a concrete deduction. If you can't made a logical case then it pulls the focus onto the human elements, like hiding your nervous twitch and lying without pausing, and by the end unless something goes comically wrong (all spies getting in the team voting fail on the first mission, for example) you have to make some leap of faith or follow some instinct to make the decisions. So, fine, it's not a strict logic game, but I preferred the game where the clues were subtle but concrete and could be pulled together to make solid deductions about what is what. Those are just first impressions after two games or less of each, though. I may have missed some of the subtitles of Resistance today during bites of shitty takeaway fried chicken.

Game of the night goes to Spartacus, which we played adjacent to what might be described as a pathologically huge game of Carcassonne.

I think that's a pretty good review. I think the whole point in resistance is that you don't have quite enough time to conclusively work out who's who whereas The Castle of the Devil (Kutschfahrt) is closer to Cluedo where you can make concrete discoveries but usually before the end you have to make a couple of leaps to win.
Spartacus was really good, definitely one of my favourite games now.
We had a great game of Catan after you left as well. (I won!)

Uber-Carcassonne seemed a good idea at the time, but 4 hours in to the 7? hour game I was beginning to consider stabbing myself with a sharpened meeple.

Dave will correct me I'm sure, but I think there were 2 base sets, 3 large expansions and 7 small expansions. Wheel of fortune included.

Adam - no problem, we called it a night at the end of the game too Smile

Resistance came to a 50/50 split between Sam and Kes as the third spy as Sam mentioned up there - I was on a 50/50 slant between the two and chose poorly Sad

In case you're interested in how we got there...

1) I got given a card that let me look at Paul's loyalty card. It being blue meant I also knew I could trust him that you were also blue. Since that mission with you two, Sam and Kes failed I knew that Sam and/or Kes was a spy. There was a mission with you, me, Paul and Jeff that failed, so I knew Jeff had to be the spy, since the others were known good. Rich's inability to lie under pressure outed him which meant simply math told me Sannah was OK leaving a 50/50 split on Kes and Sam - one definitely good, one definitely not. Shit. Smile

The epic Carcassonne was the following:

- Big Box 4 (comprising:
-- Base Game
-- Traders and Builders
-- Inns & Cathedrals
-- Corn Circles II
-- Mage & Witch
-- The Ferries
-- The Flier
-- The Goldmines
-- The Messages
-- The Robbers

Along with:
- Abbey and Mayor
- Wheel of Fortune
- Another base set

It was just too much, took too long to complete (especially since I was intending to play a bunch of short games, so a load of stuff I wanted to play got missed Sad )

Smash Up was fun, but I definitely need to print out some score trackers from Boardgamegeek - out of the box there is no method of tracking score - bonkers!.

Anyway, was a great day, really enjoyed a longer session - cheers! Smile
