You won't regret it. It's a great game! There's a new, dice-based, quick version out soon ("The Cure") that I'm looking forward to trying out...

It's all new to me so Pandemic is the start of my board game collection. I reckon knowing myself that I'll get one or two a month. Any suggestions for must have games will be appreciated Very Happy

Well, if you ask me then there are a lot of "must have" games ;-)

But I think that your best bet is to play loads of different stuff at the club, see what you like, and make some purchases based on that... That way you know that you're getting something that you'll like. You can see on this forum the various lists of games that people own, and I think most people would be very happy to bring something along if you like the sounds of it and fancy trying it.

Another good place to look is the top 100 on www.boardgamegeek.com - most of those are "good" games but, again, it depends on the sort of games that you like.

My list of good "introductory" games (not necessarily my favourite games) covering a range of different types would be something like:
- Settlers of Catan
- Carcassone
- Pandemic
- Ticket to Ride
- 7 Wonders
- Love Letter
- Dominion
- King of Tokyo
- Tigris & Euphrates
- Twilight Struggle
- Puerto Rico

Quality reply! Thanks a lot I'll do all that. Just got Pandemic on ipad. Looks exactly like the board game so should be ok for playing on Tuesday.

Twilight struggle on introductory games? Good list though. Totally agree with Paul. There are games many people love that I absolutely hate so it's good to give games a play through before buying if you can. All these games are owned by a bunch of people so it's easy to get a game in. Once you start to get a feel for the sort of thing you enjoy, you can splash out on stuff that fits into your style of game.
I also find that if I only get to play a game at the club and everyone at the club already has it then sometimes it's not worth getting. My copy of zombicide sits on a shelf at home because I always play aneurins copy

Yeah, that's a fair point, the rules for that one are a bit intimidating. I suppose it's my only experience of a "card-based" wargame (though there are loads out there). There are probably better "introductory" examples out there but I've not played them (yet!)

I am a bit of a collector though. Plus will play at home with my girlfriend and hopefully in the future guys from the club who fancy a game between club meets.

I can definitely sympathise with that collector instinct (as I'm sure many others here can!). It's definitely a great hobby for that, though it can get a bit expensive. One way to build up a bit of a collection is to watch out for people selling stuff second hand on here, or going to bring & buy sales at conventions. Can help the money stretch a bit further (and you can sell stuff that you don't like or find yourself not playing).

Well, I'd say you've come to the right place Smile
(I've not played it myself, but there are a few at the club who play a *lot*). It does look very good!

I've enjoyed what I've played so far. Some people know everything about everything and take it very seriously though.

That aimed at me Paul!?! I'll kill you!

Whilst we do play a lot and arguably take it seriously, we still really enjoy it and play for the fun, not the win. Always happy to play with newbies or people who can't afford time to play as much as us.

Paul's list is pretty definitive... But you could add

Caylus
Small world
Lords of Waterdeep
Agricola

to that list... All available on iOS...

My rebel aces are waiting at the post office... Complained to Amazon... They were out of stock and couldn't send one... On preorder since July... However bit of digging and found they were selling them via their sister site Euro Games... Strangely after I pointed this out they sorted my order...

Not impressed with their pre-order price promising... Selling at inflated prices on a sister site before fulfilling pre-orders...

Rant over...
