Just received Abyss and Colt Express! I won't have time to punch them out or read the rules today, let alone BUILD A 3D TRAIN.

Oh yes  Very Happy

So I won't bring them tonight. Next week though...

Heidi and I should be there later. As usual there's still way more games we haven't played than we have played, so we're more than happy to just dive into whatever crops up (yeah, maybe even Avalon (maybe)).

Hi Andrew,

I won't be able to make it tonight (at the local indie game developers thing). Just my luck, on the night I can't make it, people turning up wanting to (maybe) play Avalon! Hopefully catch you and Heidi at another event. Smile

Hi Tom,

Yeah, I mean video game developers; mostly it's local (Sheffield) professional developers. Most of us create and self-publish our own work; some use publishers (not always a good idea), and others work for bigger local game development companies. We meet up once a month for a chinwag and beers (or fruit juice in my case), often end the evening off with a game of Avalon - it seems to follow me around!

Andrew - do you want me to bring some classics down for you? I'll be playing Alchemists but happy for you to use and abuse... let me know...

In the last week. We played it twice at club on Tuesday, three times at mine on sat and three at the Sunday session.

That might be the most we've played a specific game in a week? Apart from x-wing. Obviously.

Sounds more addictive than crack...

Hope you have both cleared your mind for some proper research later this evening - publishing findings, applying for grants... this game sounds like my job - that's not fun!

Yeah actually, that'd be nice, thanks.  We've both enjoyed everything we've played over the last few weeks (Heidi doesn't have an account yet so I'm speaking for both of us).

I've never played Settlers, or Carcassonne, or the Werewolf thing (is it just called "Werewolf"?), but yeah, whatever you think's appropriate, thanks!

Andrew, I did bring my copy of Machi Koro along as well as Blueprints. You're welcome to play either of those. They're both simple and I can quickly teach either, even if I can't play with you.

Hello all.

Further on from a different topic thread (Living Card Games in General Ramblings) I will bring my copy of Android Netrunner tonight in case anyone wants to have a go. Only a 2 player game I'm afraid. Happy to let others play it if they like though

My brain is pretty fried today, so rather than getting into something heavy tonight, I'm thinking a couple of games of MACHI KORO followed by LA ISLA?? (I've read the rules - seems pretty straight forward and looks good fun!)... see you all 7ish! Very Happy

Re: Tuesday November 4th

Post  SamVS on Wed 05 Nov 2014, 01:14

Me and Bob played three Netrunner games tonight, Corp won every game, which was two to Bob, one to me. Two games came down to a single credit. Brilliant game, some of the best tabletop fun I've had (Spartacus, Avalon, Epic-Christmas-Pitchcar, maybe Game of Thrones and Roborally and my first game of Catan, and no doubt others I can't recall, are in the same league). I can see myself getting into it long-term.

It was great to start to play with somebody of a similar skill level, which I really think is the superior way to play any board game, or any game, not only because a game is at it's most exciting when either player can win but because part of the fun in any strategy game is working out the strategies, and playing with someone much better than you means you are learning strategies from them rather than figuring them for yourself. Which is why the idea of searching strategies online, thereby watering down the the game, taking away the discovery, gets me down. In my opinion any game you haven't played before should be played with other people who haven't played much before (and every game played this way should be played more than once, so you can take advantage of what you learnt the first time), so you have a sense of collective discovery rather than an sense of isolated catching up. Is this how others prefer to play also?

If anyone is up for extra-curricular games of anything let me know. Since I moved jobs I work a pretty regular five daytimes a week (Thursday to Monday) and can be free most evenings.

- Sam

PS @ Bob: Dammit, I forgot my Hacker's ability again that whole last game! How many times did I run against your archives after installing viruses!
