Tuesday 3rd Feb

Post  Aneurin on Mon 02 Feb 2015, 10:20

Will be down a little later - just after 7,30pm as working late on Tuesday. Bringing Space Hulk for Kes if anyone fancies a go... otherwise I will bring Chrononauts, One Night Werewolf and Kanban (again - if I can finally understand the rules)

Don't really mind what I play today.

I've got Brass for Steve and my newest acquisition, Drum Roll, with me.

Drum Roll looks great. If I don't get chance to play it tonight you can definitely count me in for its next outing.

I'm bringing Xcom. Got it yesterday and had a disastrous solo run through in which the world was well and truly destroyed. Plays 4 if anyone's interested.

I'd love to have a pop at that but I'm otherwise committed to Dead of Winter - next time! Smile

OK, so another week when I'm not playing Dead of Winter or Drum Roll, I'll play Xcom.

Dead of Winter was great, thanks for playing Sam, Dave, Evan & Tom. Even if you got us all killed!

One down, ~30 to go. The assault on the Unplayed Game Mountain has begun!

Hey I blame you - if you hadn't drawn that bloody Crossroads car on my turn I was in with a very decent chance of winning the game Smile

I'm up for Dead of Winter again anytime. I like to, you know, win a game, sometimes, so I think we should give it another shot now we are experienced zombie wasteland (non-)survivors. I'm thinking more moving characters out of the colony, more barricades and less fighting until we have weapons, less letting Tom roll the dice, and 100% more exiling Dave.

I hate to say it mate, but if I didn't know I was the bad guy last night I would have been seriously suspecting you - you were taking some awful chances in places... Smile

Nah, I think they were all reasonable risks that actually got us pretty close to the goal. Maybe rolling to save my truck driver twice was unreasonable, but I thought he was a great character that could zoom around the whole board helping people out (which he did (until we realized he can't (rules!))). The one that didn't pay off was attacking whilst in the colony, but I figured somebody has to be killing zombies there and the risk was just part of the game, right? But that's why I now figure using the dice for barricades make more sense if you have to roll exposure to attack. I don't think I realised how barricades worked until half way through the game.

I'm surprised how little suspicion there was around the table in general. I'm pretty sure that would change the next game now that we've been burned once. Is there anything you did that should have aroused suspicion, Dave? Or were you playing it straight the whole time and (smartly) relying on us to screw it up without your assistance?

From my perspective, I was suspicious of Dave because he was bringing lots of new people into the colony, thus adding mouths to feed and increasing the number of zombies.
I was also suspicious of you, Sam, for the same reasons Dave has given. I should have been suspicious of Evan hoarding cards, but I didn't notice and I wasn't suspicious of Tom, his only crime was hapless dice rolling.
I'd say the least suspicious player was me, and that was because we managed to kill a bunch of players on round 1 (I'm looking at you Tom), which fulfilled my secret win condition, meaning I didn't need to be devious!

I was intentionally playing it straight as I worked towards my (other) goals - I very much wanted there to be no obvious "there is a traitor" cases until I was ready to drop the hammer. I was lucky that two of my three hidden objectives dovetailed with the objective of the game (have a firearm and blockade four spaces in one location).

Sorry lads - I've had worse dice rolling in the past, but not by much. Great game, great theme. I think getting people who are good at searching is vital and more important than fighting ability.
