Yeah, I'm really up for one of these epic civilization games. Have you played it yet? Thoughts?

Yeah, I've played it twice. I really like it, though I am a sucker for Civ games. It's got a nice tech tree that makes sense, you get a real feeling of expansion and the devastating nature of war ensures a good amount of table diplomacy and cold war style ramping up of tension. It's also got lovely bits. It replaced my previous fave, Sid Meier's Civilisation, so completely that I actually sold that one a few weeks ago. My only complaints about CoC would be that all the civilisations are the same (something I believe they fix with the expansion) and that it feels a couple of turns too short, although making it longer probably wouldn't increase my chances of getting it to the table more often. Oh, and there's a massive Elephant on the cover and precisely zero elephants in the game. Boo.

I'm also hoping to be there and Clash of Cultures sounds interesting! In a similar vein, I still haven't managed to play my copy of Through the Ages yet. Hopefully one for a future Sunday session.

Through the Ages might be my favourite game to play, but is definitely my least favourite to teach. 'This cube represents the space that may be available to expand into in the future, unless it's in this box when it's a potential worker until you put it up here, when it becomes a building. clear?'

I would definitely want to play this at some point, perhaps over Clash of Cultures, which I get to play more often.

Haha! Sounds like a game where some advance studying would be useful then...

I found the 'how to play' podcast very useful when I was learning it. It's one of the few games that I would play the beginner version of, to learn the basics.

Yes, we run from when the pub opens at 12 till there's noone left. Generally about 10ish.

Incidentally, is there anyone who can get there for 12? Kes and I might not be able to come till later so it'd be good to know someone's holding the fort.

Paula and I will be coming along to eat Sunday lunch, drink a pint of bitter and play a game or five.

I'm not sure what games we'll be bringing. Maybe I'll put Patchwork and A Few Acres of Snow in the bag as they are both nice two-player games we've got fairly recently. Two-player games don't tend to get much of a go at the regular club sessions.

I've got a few unplayed "The Works" games which I haven't got round to trying yet, if anyone is interested? They might be good, they might be terrible but they were certainly cheap!

La Citta is a city building game, played on a lovely big board. You can add different areas to your cities to influence the people, such as markets, hospitals and universities.

20th Century is a game by the same designer as Last Will. Another city builder, this time you are bidding on Carcassonne style tiles, but you have to deal with garbage effectively and avert disasters to stay ahead.

Quest - A Time of Heroes is a story driven, light RPG in a board game box. One player plays as a Game Master who runs the story and up to 4 other players are heroes who are trying to save the world.

Let me know if anybody wants to have a go at these!

I'd be up for a go at these. I've heard good things about La Citta, but not played any of them. Hoping to make it down on Sunday...

I'll be there for about 12:00. A civ type game sounds good but am willing to play anything.

Not sure when I can get there, probably between 2 and 3. Don't wait up for me if you've got other people wanting to play Clash.

After last night I've decided that I'm not a fan of games with auction/trading mechanic that also contain dwarves.
