Yeah, super busy tonight!

Awesome game of Avalon, adding in Oberon was fun, we should definitely try that again. Still keen to try some of the Resistance KS stuff, esp. Rogues and Reversers.

Sorry I ducked out of Sabateur by the way. Smile

Yeah, good night. If you guys want to give Legendary Encounters another shot I'm all for it. I felt getting overwhelmed by the hive deck so early made it hard to get much out of the deck-building. Being dead was also a hindrance. I'm trying to work out what we could have done better. I think sergeants all have co-ordinate so getting some of the more expensive, better cards would have been possible early if we'd all bought them and helped each other. We also could have made sure cards that suit one players deck could be bought by them. Also, I think it's important that when a facehugger gets Sam, kill it. Just my thoughts.

That game of Avalon messed with my head. Don't think I did myself any favours by voting weirdly either. I should have realised Aneurin was a sneaky lying git.

I'd definitely be up for another go at that some time as well.

Sam - I agree that getting some sergeants early on would definitely have helped. Given that you redraw when you use them to help then their use is essentially completely free and I guess we should have been aiming to use a coordinate pretty much every turn. In terms of what we could have done better, well perhaps I regret my comment of "we won't worry about the hostages, we've got other things to deal with" ;-)

Count me in for another go at Legendary Encounters.... as a contribution to what we could do better, I reckon letting the scout go first might also help Smile, and why isn't there a nuke the site from orbit card ?

What do you mean? I told everyone the truth that you were good! It was dave that was framing you! Don't trust dave - and as appears above - any dave in any game!

Out of interest did we run out of boards last night? We have plenty in the kitty for more... I'll speak to jeff and see of we can organise some extra chairs -
We need them if the numbers continue to hit 30-40 a week.

Really good turn out last night and more new faces, the club continues to grow!

Really enjoyed Colloseum, obviously, but I need to work on my event - lions just aren't exciting enough apparently.

Tense game of Avalon to finish, I thought the balance was pretty good with the additional characters. My gamble in the last game just didn't pay off, Anuerin voted in a way that outed himself as a spy, which is what I hoped but Joe and I should have shared our plan more widely so that the mission was rejected. Same time next week? And count ne in for trying the expansions.

I still don't get you logic on that one - you picked the super 4 and me... I had to accept as I was proclaiming that dave and Annie were spies. I'd got Steve convinced. Also if you had shared this secret plan you and joe had it would have possibly swung my assassin vote to joe from Annie - we were in a
Very strong position.

I threw dave a little when I proclaimed Steve as good - but I needed at least 1 good guy to believe me... If id tried to frame him people wouldn't have believed me anyway...

Given that we had an odd number of boards last night and that they come in pairs, there must be another one somewhere. Couldn't hurt to get a couple more regardless.

I reckon we see how things go over the next few weeks with regards chairs. If we have another surge like last spring/summer then we'll have a problem fitting in the pub if we all stand!

I think some smaller 3x3 boards could help... Would mean 4 tables in the benched area... 3 in the main bar and a couple in the hall...

A lot of the games we play don't need the massive boards.

Yeah you got me convinced, I blame myself for not realising that if the "super 4" were definitely all good guys then that increased the odds of you being bad significantly, however I was convinced you were good so well done. I was also relatively sure that Dave was good given that Jen had already pointed out that Jamie was a bastard bad, however I let the fact that the first mission only had 1 fail in it sway my opinion on Dave. I didn't for a moment think there were 2 bad guys on that first mission. I also dropped a bollock by not sending myself on my own mission, I realise now how dodgy that looked. Still I'm pretty confused as to why Karl sent you on that final mission if he was so sure you were bad.

Re: Tuesday 24th March

I thought Karl sent Aneurin on that final mission, as a test, to see how people voted, which could indicate if Aneurin was good or bad. I was known to be bad, so me rejecting the team, made the team look 100% good; and if the vote failed (which it didn't), another round of voting could have seen the same team (with Aneurin on it again) put forward and approved. It wouldn't of course; because it would have been King Steve, who would naturally put himself and the other 4 confirmed good guys on the team; at which point, evil players would have been pulling all the stops to make Steve look evil, which would not work, because if Steve was thought to be evil, that would make Aneurin evil too (as he said Steve was good). So ultimately, my decision to reject the final mission team, was an error. I should have approved it...

The other possible error I made, was choosing to card Aneurin; I felt he was evil, and wanted to keep the Lady with the evil team (which I think is the right thing to do). However, as I was known to be evil at that point, it only served to bring Aneurin more in to the spotlight. All worked out okay in the end, but perhaps I should have carded someone else. Not sure to be honest.

That's the thing with Avalon, ever time I play, I always make mistakes and learn something new.

3 x 3 boards sounds like a good idea to me. Smile

I've not yet beaten that game, but that was by far the worst pasting I've taken while playing - I'm frankly amazed we got into the third task the way things were going at the start.

I *definitely* want to have another crack at it soon - not next week, but soon Smile

I disagree it was the best thing to do to reinforce my work with Steve and Matt...

I presume Karl was looking for the super 4 to reject that mission and the spies (including you to accept it - as I was a spy and on the mission) as t stood - you, Karl, Joe and Annie rejected it... As there was a question over Annie and Dave you voting to reject the mission I was on would have signalled extra proof that I was good had Matt or Steve had rejected the team. So well played!

Aneurin wrote:I disagree it was the best thing to do to reinforce my work with Steve and Matt...

On the surface of it, yes, you're right, and that was my rational for approving the mission (i.e. it made you look like a good guy).

The problem is (as I see it), if that team was rejected, Steve was next in line to be King. He would put himself on the team (he knew he was good) along with the other 4 confirmed good guys (which would have left you off the team). Had such a team been proposed, team evil would have had to convince the other good guys, that Steve was bad ... that would be super tricky ... because you already said Steve was good when you used Lady of the Lake on him (so if you said Steve was now evil, that would make you look evil too). Oh what a tangled web!

So, that's why I think I should have approved that last mission. I didn't know how everyone else was going to vote; and it could have turned out that my approving that team, resulted in 5 approves and 4 rejects. It's kind of a trade-off I guess, weighing up the value of one additional approve (so, more chance of the proposed team going ahead), VS, damaging the credibility of the spy on the proposed team. That make sense?

Aneurin wrote:I presume Karl was looking for the super 4 to reject that mission and the spies (including you to accept it - as I was a spy and on the mission) as t stood - you, Karl, Joe and Annie rejected it... I thought so too; that Karl was proposing a team he intended to reject, just to see how other people voted. I guess the other good players (other than Joe and Annie) didn't really pick up that! Was an awesome game though, really enjoyed playing Oberon, loads of fun! Smile

Joe was asking after, if there is any rule about private conversation during the game. I think he (Merlin) and Annie (Percy) were sharing info. There's nothing specific in the rules (think it just says you can't show, or discuss the art on, your character card). Opinion is somewhat split, some people (on BGG) say everything should be out in the open; for me, I'm more in the anything goes camp. Just because someone claims to be Percy or Merlin, doesn't mean they are! Also, I think it's better to allow more scope of player actions, and then only reduce that, if it turns out something is broken. I think I whispered to Joe a few times, mid-game, that I thought he may be Merlin! (not that I knew, just for fun, wanted to see how he reacted). Smile

I want to respond in more detail but I'm on my phone and hate typing long posts. However, Jamie has pretty much summed up my thinking. I'm not saying it was perfect and it hung on how the spies voted but with Steve next in line, and then Aneurin, I took the gamble that one of you was a good guy and that playing a team that would be rejected would help me figure that out. Joe suggested it nd I ran with it, we couldn't be too explicit as it would give the game away but if we'd managed to make Steve the leader we would have won. We didn't, that's the way the game goes.

In response to Jamie above I don't think Merlin should be able to communicate by secret means - lets say Joe just text everyone that he was Merlin and dave and I were bad... Game over for the bad guys.

Far as I'm aware there is no rule against any hidden communications, and can be used against the good guys too - for example Sam proposes a logical argument that persons x, y and z are the traitor and he feels a tap on his leg from person a - how's he supposed to be sure that a is Merlin and not a clever spy screwing with him?

Of course also, if Merlin should get busted trying to communicate in secret he's completely screwed...
