ONUW would be good as well (trying to decide whether to back One Night Resistance).

$30 each Will (guess that's around £20) including shipping, if you and me back it?

Would anyone, preferably who's played before, be up for a 3 or 4 player game of Eclipse?

I'll be popping down on Tuesday as a first timer so will happily play or watch anything that doesn't require 3 play-throughs to understand it. Neutral

Ta,

Do you meet in the main pub or is there a function room lurking somewhere?

You want to play Eclipse Sam?

We could do with 1 or 2 more; I'll text Dave, see if he's interested and can make it down early. Anyone else? Maybe Tom? (think Karl and Aneurin are busy with the StarWars miniatures game).

Yeh I did quite a bit of thinking bout that game and how better to play those races.

I think all of us were trying to "do too much" and should have been passing much more.

that would speed the game up Very Happy

Yeah, I'm sure 45 minutes to 1 hour, per person, with people who've played before, should be doable. When I get a spare moment, I'll take a look at optimising (making new) foam-core inserts, to speed up setup and packing away times (in theory, you should be able to leave most components in the box, in their own specific tray or slot, and just get them out as and when needed).

That's the most heated game of Avalon I've played yet! Aneurin and Karl crucifying Jamie was very surprising — to the point I briefly wondered if this was some pre-planned ploy between two or all of you to out the spies! Karl's logic didn't add up, though I didn't account for the extra info he had as Percy. Nonetheless, it was pretty brutal — and a joy to watch Smile Smile Smile

Being unjustly trusted is maybe the best feeling in the game Smile So I convinced the group to take Dave on the third mission and from the start of my turn as king I knew I wanted two spies to succeed that mission. That sort of thing seemed to be Dave's style so I had no doubt there would be 100% succeeds coming on for mission 3.  Mission four fails and Jamie is back in the game. I was briefly nervous he would swoop in and put us dead to rights. But everyone else went from trusting me to trusting Dave, even though he had also been on the failed mission. Mission 5 fails with two spies on it. Awesome Smile

I know we were rushing somewhat but it's one of the few plays where I felt like I had decent control over situations as a spy. Now I just wish I was good enough to get that feeling as a good guy! I wonder how Matt felt about that game, as Oberon.

Jamie whooped us in Eclipse. Again. Need to figure out how to stop that guy, jeez. He always gets the economic advantage. Next game: Interceptors, Improved Drives, Neutron Bombs — whilst he's faffing around with the galactic centre, bomb the shit out of the rest of his empire? Let's play again!

Jamie as a loyal servant saying 'I'm not Merlin' didn't help. If a knight declares themselves this way it gives the assassin a massive advantage as it drops the random chance of identifying Merlin to 1/5 from 1/6. Furthermore it gives the other knights no information - so what's the point? With Nicole only backing up Jamie - if we think he is a spy - she is then also bad which helped convince us Dave was good.

I played terribly! Jamie's claim was odd, I don't get why a good guy would claim to be Merlin, particularly that early in the game. My big mistake was trusting Sam; I knew that Dave was either Merlin or Morgana and I got almost nothing from Nicole but bad vibes. I'm putting it down to a bad night but I think I need to reassess shouting at people too early. The game did feel more fraught than usual last night.

Don't forget the first mission also succeeded and pretty much everyone had approved it - so it looked like there was a spy in the midst - either Jamie or Nicole... It just so happened Sham picked the perfect team - but Nicole decided to build the same team but with sham - if she had put me on instead of Jamie I may have accepted that team - the way she played convinced me further that they were both Spies. She should have tried harder to convince me. However that action did secure Claudia as good for me.

Dave and Sam played a perfect game though. Well and Owen. I shouldn't have laked Matt.

Re: Tuesday April 21st

Well, that was a very heated session and shouty! Not so sure I like it that loud! I think that can only ever help evil. It doesn't really give good the space they need, to be calm and employ reason and logic.

If I was evil in that game, I'd have been rubbing my hands with glee at the discord in camp good, and maybe gently helping to stir the conflict, not that it needed much stirring!

Aneurin wrote:Jamie as a loyal servant saying 'I'm not Merlin' didn't help. If a knight declares themselves this way it gives the assassin a massive advantage as it drops the random chance of identifying Merlin to 1/5 from 1/6.

Well, it's true, if someone is excluded from the pool of Merlin possibles, that would bring it down to 1/5. However, given your reasoning, why then, wouldn't the real Merlin (in any game) just say "I'm not Merlin"; would that automatically exclude them from assassination?

Nobody knew (apart from real Merlin and Percival) for sure, if I was Merlin or not. Interestingly, quite a few of the evil players had me down as real Merlin, by the end of the game.

Aneurin wrote:Furthermore it gives the other knights no information - so what's the point? With Nicole only backing up Jamie - if we think he is a spy - she is then also bad which helped convince us Dave was good.

From my perspective, the way I see it...

It seeds the idea in the minds of the evil players, that I may (or may not) be Merlin. Even if they think there's a 50% chance that I am being dishonest in my claim (and therefore actually am the real Merlin), that's a great help to good, as it shields the real Merlin, to a degree, from assassination.

It's also said, just to see how people respond. The more dialog we have, the longer the game goes on for, the more opportunity evil have for making mistakes and revealing themselves.

A bit of an own goal when your team mates conclude you're evil on the strength of the claim though. Synergy, and team cohesion (is that a real term?) are clearly important! Shocked Very Happy

In my opinion if a good guy says anything about Merlin - he is on my radar and I will scrutinise the way he is voting - especially if I'm on team evil.

Ok so yes in what you said you protected Merlin (Owen and dave thought it was you) but equally it didn't matter 1 dime... With 2 out of the 6 good guys with questions on their head the spies have an easy job and don't need to find Merlin.

Be interesting to play one game with little or no talking - just base it on the voting.
