Just some thoughts on games I've played today and recently:

Dobble: I have fond memories of playing snap and switch between lessons in high school, where we would continually add silly rules until there were too many to remember — then, of course, a rule was added so your were penalised for forgetting a rule. I'm fond of all of snap's lineage, and had a blast with this one today, though Anomnia is still my favourite game of this type, followed by Jungle Run.

Space Alert: Not exactly what I expected it to be: I was thinking along the lines of Space Cadets: Dice Duel, but it was more Roborally with the egg timer replaced with a CD track, and some Galaxy Trucker mixed in. Which is great. Both those games are hilarious, and Space Alert is even more funny then either, and also very intuitively designed and lovely to look at and thematic and generally really really nice.

Agricola: I've got into a bad habit of saying every worker placement game I play is the best work placement game I've ever played. I've just recently played Waggle Dance soon followed by Euphoria followed by Russian Railroads followed by Agricola. There is something downright weird and beautiful about Russian Railroad's abstract mechanical systems, but what gives Agricola the edge is that is mostly feels like it is about what the box suggests it is.  My tense showdown with Karl also helped it make an impression with me (one point!).

If Caverna is indeed the nicer, points focused version of Agricola, I think I might like it less. I mean, what's more engaging: points, or survival? Still, I'm cautiously looking forward to it.

yeah, Caverna is nice, but Agricola is tense and engaging. People complain about the constant pressure to feed you family in Agricola, but to me that's the best thing about it. Caverna was OK, but the lack of any kind of pressure bearing down on you meant my attention wandered a bit. The fact that there's always something worth doing means you lose that tension of someone earlier in the turn order screwing your plans.

I also prefer Agricola for the tension in avoiding begging cards. Caverna is good - but with so many options of VPs and so many common rooms to read rather than a hand of your own cards I just don't enjo it as much.

I'm yet to try Agricola with Farmers of the Moor... I have it un-played... Perhaps may 2015 is the month to finally lose at Agricola!

I was just eyeing up the club copy of Farmers of the Moor earlier today, I've never played it either. We should definitely give it a whirl this month.
