There's a minor change in Batman Love Letter where you can also get a victory token by correctly identifying someone using the batman card. Otherwise they are identical.

Hobbit Love Letter is slightly different also. The Baron card (compare hands, lowest is out) is replaced by two separate cards: Legolas and Tauriel. Legolas works the same as the Baron, but with Tauriel the two players compare hands and the person with the higher valued card is out.
There is also a One Ring card, this card has a value of zero unless there is a comparison at the end of the game, in which case it takes a value of 7.
As a result of adding two additional cards,  successfully using the Guard card (Smaug) is more difficult.

GoT looks unlikely so Matt, I'll join you on a shorter games table. I have my expo purchase Sushi Go! and will bring a few other quick/introductory games with me.

Suave. Looking forward to Splendour and Sushi Go

Can't remember if Jamie is down so will bring un-cow Avalon just in case - unless anyone would prefer to switch to Resistance / Coup?

Or if Danny can spare us 20 beer mats and a marker pen we can play Skull, which is another bluffing game that we played at the Games Expo. I thought it was really clever, elegant, exciting and fun (and far less rubbish than Coup or Love Letter! Razz).

I would like to play a few games of Summoner Wars if anyone is interested. If somebody has another map we can play four players. I suspect it is still best with two, but it would be worth finding out for sure. It's really easy to learn and takes 30 or 40 minutes with 2, a fun mix of CCG-inspired mechanics and tactical area-control combat with very appealing fantasy artwork and loads of potential for satisfying combos. I've only played three times so I'm pretty rubbish.

Oh, and I'll be up for Game of Thrones next time the chance comes, Karl.

I'm up for trying that. Does it need to be beer mats or can I make something to do the same job and prevent us clearing him out?

If Karl, myself and one or two others are small-gaming then I suspect there will be someone to play Summoner Wars with, bring it down!

All each player needs for Skull is four cards of whatever shape (circular in the retail version) that are identical on the back, and on the front one of the cards (the "skull") is distinct from the other three. In beer mat design that would be four beers mats, one with a picture -- cross, exclamation mark, whatever -- on one side, times by the number of payers.

Hope you all had an ace time at the expo. Smile

No need to beer mat Avalon; I'll be along (a tad late this week, have the game dev meet-up before hand) with the genuine article; plus new (to me) Lancelot and Excalibur expansion.

Oh, was there talk of playing Game of Thrones, the Tuesday after next? If so, very much put me down do a seat at that particular table!

EDIT: Oh, Sam said next time; sorry, I should learn to read posts fully before jumping in with a reply. Anyway, yes, I'm down for Game of Thrones, whenever it sees the light of day (but not 1st Tuesday of the months). Smile

So playing cards would work if we designate the ace of spades as the skull card? (or have I misunderstood)

Almost, Matt: you need one skull per player, so with four players the aces would work, with more the red cards or picture cards or red picture cards would do the job too.

I think it's a different name for the same game, Jamie.

Or you could have three red cards and a black card for each player, perhaps.

It's a neat little game. Paula and I played it with a nice couple of ladies on Saturday night. Or at least we thought they were nice but it turned out they were both devious as anything.

Ok, I'll see if I can find a pack of cards - if anyone knows they have one, bring it down.

Alex, what was the name of that racing game we played? I want to add it to my played games list. Here are my ratings for the games I've played recently, mostly after one play (some two in the same sitting). May expand on them later:

Clacks 1/3 - Belongs on The Star's puzzle page
Om Nom Nom 3/3 - Premier league bluffing game
Sushi Go 3/3 - Premier league filler game
Extra Extra 2/3
Uchronia 3/3 - Better than Imperial Settlers
Skull 3/3
Hook! 1/3
8 Minute Empires 2/3 - Shorter than Twilight Imperium
Lords of Vegas, 3/3 - Better than Monopoly
Diamonsters, 1/3 - Worse than Love Letter
Alex's Racing Game, 2/3 - I won
