Risk 2210 AD
1. Jamie
2. Carl (provisional)
3. Leanne (provisional)
4. Sam
5. Dave

Sorry Jamie, can me and Leanne remove ourselves from the Risk list. Its really nice outside and I'm back off up to Scotland for work tomorrow so we kinda wanna make the most of it. Plus we were too hot in there a few weeks ago when it was nowhere near this warm, so not sure we'd survive a full game of Risk without melting tonight!
Sorry for the late notice and disappointment. Hopefully get a game in a some point soon though

Would you guys be up for starting Black Fleet a little late (at 2000 or so) - With Anneurin arriving late today Paul was talking about giving Spyfall a spin - it plays about 10min a round and I'd love to have a pop at it.

Hi Dave! - Yes that's fine... I'll be there at 7 anyway so I'll play spyfall too if there's room...

Really enjoyed Dominant Species, Aneurin. Thanks for bringing it down. Despite a couple of silly mistakes and a small misunderstanding of the Regression rules I don't think I gave too bad an account of myself. ~100 points in the final round certainly helped.

It's one of those games that I've been on the cusp of buying for a couple of years, but was worried it would sit on my shelf unplayed due to a lack of available willing players (There isn't a chance in hell my wife would ever play it with me). In all honesty, though I enjoyed it just as much as I thought I would, I doubt I'll buy it, but I'm always up for another game of your copy, Aneurin.

Risk 2210 AD was pretty good. Seemed a little slow, but I guess that was because we were all new to it. Still, I think everyone enjoyed it.

I'd like to play it where there is no moon though. Just seemed a bit OP, to stuff all your troops on the moon, then play an Earth Invasion card, on the last turn (esp. if you're the fith player) and snap up loads of single unit territories...

I'm thinking the game would lend itself well to custom rules and varients.

I'm a bit jealous, as would have liked to play. That said, very much enjoyed Black Fleet, but similarly felt that some rule mods might be in order.

Cheers for all the games and banter and have a good weekend all!

Yeah, I like Risk 2210 a lot. The hook in Risk is the uncertainty of being able to hold anything you take. Everyone has to be aggressive all the time, and you need to hold territories till your turn for any bonuses, and the chance involved in battles — are you going to get lucky with that weakly defended spot, or unlucky with that heavily defended spot — means I was nervously engaged during everybody's turn, even more so than in, say, Eclipse. The commander units, action cards, energy resource, points based victory conditions and turn limit that are new to 2210 seem to turn Risk into a modern game: more tactical options, better flow and more excitement.

Yeah, your moon tactic was powerful, Jamie, but as in Eclipse and missile spam everyone has the same chance to use that tactic and attempt to stop other people doing it. Plus, we haven't even played a full game yet! I don't think we can dismiss the moon board yet. I like that idea that if you control two space stations and a moon landing site you can use the moon to travel between the space stations in the reinforcement move. Surprise reinforcements!

Anyway, if you want to play a full game sometime, or a game of Eclipse, just let me know, I'm definitely keen to play more.

I thought the rules for Black Fleet were fairly polished - I'd be interested to hear what you might change?

For me, the only change I might make would be to prevent pirates from moving directly past the Navy.

Karl needs to lose his crown so perhaps we could play again in July?

That's true. Though, with ROTA there are a lot of anti-plasma-missle techs available (in fact, ROTA makes Eclipse a really well balanced and even more awesome game). The idea of getting rid of the moon appeals to me, because it means less territories, so more conflict; just makes everything more 'tight'. Happy to play a full game again anything though, with moon.

Totally. Aside from Avalon, these are my most favourite type of games. Definitely need to play a LOT more Eclipse! Smile
