Well, my kickstarter addiction has reared its head again.. I've now backed Slaughterville

Must resist Tiny Epic Kingdoms...

I think this could be a popular thread.

Questions for Kickstarterers:

Do you back at the level that gets you the game or one of the higher ones that gets you the overpriced extras?

How often are you disappointed in by the results of your gamble?

Do you play and enjoy Kickstarter or non-Kickstarter games more?

Some good questions, usually just the game, occasionally I will pay more to get extras, but it largely depends on what those are...
So far I've received around 10 kickstarted games, and only been disappointed with one of them, which was an RPG related thing, which doesnt really work, but it was $8, so not really a huge loss and the artwork was still good. I'd say Im likely to enjoy both equally, I've found kickstarter most useful for backing stuff for additional print runs of hard to find games and stuff that probably wouldnt get made without it, ( except for zombicide, I love zombicide, but even I didnt back black plague.. I have enough zombicide stuff to last a lifetime ).

I usually only back at the base level too. Thus far, I haven't been disappointed with any of the Kickstarters. I sold Oddball Aeronauts because I didn't really like the game when I received it, but that happens with non-KS games I buy too.
I've currently got 9 Kickstarters on the go, desperately trying not to get into double figures... But I'm not expecting to win that battle.

Base level for me too. There are usually enough interesting stretch goals to make the final game feel a bit special. I would say i'm disappointed with the finished product about 50% of the time.

I guess I vary. There are certain additional rewards that I'm more interested in than others. I'm never going to be persuaded to pay money to have my likeness featured in a game or to pay for a hologrammed box or whatever but I occasionally like to buy the extra content (expansions, etc.)

I've now moved from backing Kickstarters that ’look cool' to those for games that I know are good (reprints), that I've played and enjoyed or that have been recommended by people who I trust. I don't think I've been super disappointed by anything yet but there are one or two that could have done with a bit of polish.

It's always the rulebooks! No one can write them well. Perhaps I should set myself up as a freelance rulebooks writer / editor. Think I'd enjoy that!

I don't think I've yet been disappointed with a KS game - although I have been disappointed with -how- the KS was run.

Typically I stick to the lowest tier that gets me the game but I have occasionally dipped into the add-ons pool too- for example during the last Flashpoint expansion KS I took advantage of the opportunity to buy a load of the other expansions for the game as they were a -lot- cheaper than in the shops.

I really must stop now...
Just looked and I'm still waiting for...

Viceroy
Tiny Epic Galaxies
Heroes Wanted: The stuff of Legend
Trickerion
Thunderbirds
Ninja Dice: Kage Masters
Burgle Bros
Salem
Coup: Rebellion G54
Click-Clack Lumberjack
Mare Nostrum
Carson City Big Box

on top of that I'm backing

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong
Ninja Camp

I generally go for the higher tiers that get me some exclusive goodies - I feel this justifies some of the outrageous postage costs I get landed with post campaign these days.

I am often a little bit annoyed if campaigns don't include KS exclusives... there should be a bonus for putting money up front months in advance...

I'm trying to think if I've ever been disappointed with any Kickstarter once its arrived... not really... I guess the biggest let down was Zombicide Season 2 - but not the campaign and goodies - more how rubbish the additional rules were. Season 3 is better but not great... hence why I didn't go for Black Plague... I think even I'm done with Zombicide now...

I'm also starting to get weary of big names using the site to 'sell' their latest game... things like Zombicide and Tiny Epic - shouldn't really be using the service with all the money they have should they? But saying that I now have two Travis products...

So I currently only (!) have five KS on the go, four of them boardgame related. That could be worse, I suppose Smile

Is anyone backing the Scoville Labs kickstarter? Aneurin, Alex and SteveyG played the base game on Saturday at TCAD and were singing its praises. $60 plus postage for the base game and expansion...

I was reading about that, but since you have the willpower of damp tissue paper in these matters I think I'll just play your copy Wink

I was hovering  over "back this project" for a couple of minutes last night before eventually exiting. Two Kickstarter this week is quite enough.

Me and Aneurin have both backed it on the back of that single play on Saturday. It's a good game with lovely bits.

I think that says more about you and I Steve than how good the game was. No I did actually think it was a great game. Lots of different ways to score points which kept it quite exciting. Hearing Steve groan when I took the Recipe he was aiming for each and every turn was also enjoyable. I don't think this is one for the family though - defiantly a lot of strategy.

The only downside (highlight by Rahdo) is the hidden bidding for start player. Losers also have to pay - so you can end up forking out a lot of money and get nothing for it... but then I think that adds something to it myself - you have to be sure that those 5 coins will get you in a good position... risk based analysis... and all that jazz.

Paul - they will be our bits though - not yours... it's calling to you "back me! back me Paul"

I've pulled out of Scoville... pangs of financial guilt when I looked through my 'backed' list recently.

I really wanted to back Scoville but never did. I saw a copy for sale in Canada last week but baggage restrictions meant I couldn't bring it back.
