I could be tempted. Is it the same as the "normal" Risk? It can be quite long for an evening.

We will bring a couple of games tonight (Avalon, Lords of Xidit) as well.

Could anyone lend me a copy of Splendor? I plan to use it as a gateway later this week and don't yet own it outside of my iPad!

Hi Pierre,

It's probably a little quicker than normal Risk, as there are only 5 turns before the game ends. It's pretty good, we played it a couple of months back at the Red House, and everyone (Dave, Sam, Tom, Tom) seemed to like it. You get to conquer the moon, and there are water spaces, and you have commanders and command cards ... and ... robot armies!

Sounds interesting, we will see if we've got enough players for it tonight.

I'm going to have to bail, I'm stuck at work for the foreseeable future - someone appears to have turned the circulatory device up to 11 before dropping the faecal matter upon it...

I think Kes and I are playing Gnomes of Zavandor, in which case we have two seats if you want them.

We left them in the forest at the weekend. Should take them at least another 48 hrs to get back.

Lizzy, Gnomes of Zavandor sounds like a name pulled from an internet fantasy name generator. We're in!

Absolutely. Excellent venue, plenty of room, good beer, food, hot drinks and nice staff! Great turnout too, if we have that number every week contributing then we won't have any problems.

Just watch out for the RPGers in the corner!

I have to admit, I was a little worried. I thought the place would be full of bearded men, wearing black roll-neck sweaters and smoking pipes whilst discussing the influence of Kierkegaard on post-modern Belgian folk music, but there were hardly any of them!

It was a good venue, I thought. Good lighting, good tables, good beer. The holy trinity. The only issue was with the acoustics. It was often quite hard to hear what was being said on the other side of the table. Maybe we should invest in club drapes. Smile

I have to say that, pipe smoking aside, that sounds like a good night out to me.

It's a nice venue for playing games. One thing to note is that with 20-30 people upstairs there was nobody downstairs when I was nipping to the bar and leaving.

I'll likely make food there a regular thing as it means I don't hang around at work and it's certainly better than Tesco meal deals.

If I'm being really picky then the lighting wasn't great - don't misunderstand me it's better than the Red House (can't comment on MT never went there) - but it could be improved so I'll make it my only moan.

I couldn't hear well in the red house anyway so this is no change for me - perhaps spill over into the other smaller room at the start to break up the sound?

Cracking beer selection though :-) It's not far from my house so it's very tempting to go home and walk back to enjoy the beer properly. Probably not a good idea on a Tuesday!

The Uni Arms is a great find - thanks to those putting the effort into looking for a new place.

I liked it but it felt like a Queen Games game. It's hard to describe - but I guess I would say it's like a sub standard euro. It could be great but the player interaction is just totally lacking. The map for 4 players was too big. You very rarely had to worry about negative points as only 1 other person had built in the town (even at end game). To me it would work better with a power grid mechanic where basically you are going to be building in every town and it's a race to get the cheap/optimum path for you.

I loved the workers and resting them. The arrows on the hexagons were confusing. There should have been a rest green arrow and a work red arrow to help you spin them in the right direction. Also the starting value for the worker on the auction track wasn't clear.

So I liked it but didn't love it - and feel I could have if the designers had put a little more thought into it.

For example why did we all have seperate pubs? That could have been a shared board and would mean you might choose to rest stonemasons before Alex does... Get that interaction going.

The repair mechanism felt bolted on... It didn't need it... And if they felt it was needed it should only be allowed in tones where you have built.
