Tuesday 13th October

Post  Aneurin on Wed 07 Oct 2015, 10:32

So we are playing Battle Star Galactica right? Who was in again and who is bringing the game? I have the base set with no expansions...

1 Aneurin
2 Dave B
3 Paul G
4 Jen
5 Ste
6 Sam
7 Jamie

Do any of the expansions allow for more than 6 players?

I'm in, though haven't played before. Will try to read the rules in advance...

Pegasus adds in a potential 7th player - a "Cylon Leader" which has special objectives that are hidden from everyone else.

I have BSG, Pegasus and Exodus (the latter of which is unplayed)

The expansions are modular so you can include some elements but not others - for example personally I like the Pegasus board and Cylon Leader elements from Pegasus, but the New Caprica module I don't like at all.

It's pretty straightforward, but I remember thinking the rulebook wasn't that well organised when I first read it - I can recommend the Esoteric Order of Gamers summary as being pretty good for this one...

Oh and I'm in, with a tiny little potential wrinkle - I've got to take my car in for it's MOT/service - assuming all being well I'll be back in plenty of time but if not...

However the car is pretty new so I'm 99% sure there will be no issues.

If you can get to the Pub I can give you a lift home...

Sounds to me like you have a duty to open the box just to investigate that all the pieces are present to avoid tears at Xmas... ;-)

I was going to paint the models for them... but then there is a high risk they would see them... plus we can play PaulC's copy... Wink

Anyone else in for 7th Continent yet?

I was (am) very tempted, it looks great, but is quite expensive and since you're backing it...

I'm not expecting anything that major - I meant more that should there be issues to resolve I might struggle to get back in time - I've been told that the service/MOT should take about 3 hours and is booked in at 1330 with a priority flag set on it (as I've got to take the car to Scunthorpe and then wait around while they do the work) - so I should be back around 1730-1800 at a guess, in which case I'll come straight to the Uni Arms and eat there Smile

If Paul bails to play Thunderbirds I'd like to play that. Unless something even more exciting turns up and I bail Razz

Aneurin - Kat and Sam were both asking about playing BSG, (in fact Sam was the initiator). I think Karl wanted to play too

If Pegasus allows a 7th player,  Lizzy can play whether I bail  or not. Right?

Yeah, similar from me. Looks very interesting and I'd like to play it, but I've got another similarish Kickstarter on the way (Apocrypha Adventure Card Game) so can't quite justify this one.

I meant I'll play Thunderbirds if you get it Paul. Or I can play Scott's copy if he's getting it too. Or I'm happy to try Above & Below as I love Ryan Laukat's work. Basically, I'll see what happens on Tuesday!

Yeah, I can't make it next week. I'd love to play BSG at some point but don't postpone for my sake, we can play again soon.

You mean after completing Flick em up, playing kanban, Cleopatra, Imperial assault and all the others?

Re: Tuesday 13th October

Post  DaveB on Wed 07 Oct 2015, 18:13

OK so that's 7 for BSG - that will only work if we add in the Cylon Leader element from Pegasus which is a role one player *must* take. In essence they will have a secret objective and they win only if that secret objective is resolved. Some of them are a net positive to the human players, some of them are not. For example one I've seen is "You win if the humans win AND you play a super crisis card".

Since we're adding that in I guess we have the options of adding in other stuff from that expansion too - obviously the extra players, resource and crisis cards will be in play anyway but we have a choice of two additional headline modules we can play:

1) Pegasus expansion board - this gives us additional action choices (you can space a suspected cylon!) and an additional ship to take damage.

2) New Caprica expansion board - this adds in an additional element at the end of the game where you need to try to escape from New Caprica.

What would people like to play?

Personally I don't like the New Caprica part very much, it's kinda fiddly and it can be a little hard on the humans (the decision to jump is made by the Admiral. It's very easy for an unrevealed cylon to crash the game if he holds the Admiral card at this point... Additionally it tends to make the game longer (sometimes much) (in the base game once you travel 8 units your next jump ends the game, while in this one once you have traveled 7 or more units New Caprica becomes active, you then complete this phase of the game and THEN the game is over).

Happy to go with what you feel is best. I will bring my base set just in case you cant make it... then we can fall back to that as a 6 player. Or again if Paul C abandons us to perform some international rescue should we just do base game?
