Tue 14th February - Valentines Special
The next meeting clashes with Valentines Day. So I wont be there. Although I think whoever does go should aim for a theme night...
Love Letter...
Cottage Garden... (growing roses)
Rococco... (making pretty outfits to give as presents)
that game about perfume?

OR, we could ignore it completely? I'll be there and I'm quite keen to get TTR: Asia to the table, the team variant. Needs even numbers, plays great with 6 - any takers? will be playing Risk: Legacy!

Ah the Orient express... a nice romantic train journey... nice meal with Champagne... how lovely - well until the inevitable murder that will need to be solved... I see what you did there Karl...

I'm still good for Risk Legacy (unless of course I get inundated with Valentines cards and offers of hot dates). If Karl wants to back out, I can bring Risk Europe...

You're all on the list and that puts us up to 5 players and full (although I suppose I could always bring in another copy if anyone else wants to play).

I've still never played Agricola at the club despite it being my all time favourite game, so if anyone wants to play it another week I'd be well up for it.

Kes and I are going to try Shitenno. Unplayed game I've had a while, quite short and simple. Two more spots for people to join us

No worries David. I hope you're feeling better soon.
Agricola will definitely be back on the table before too long so hopefully I'll play it with you then.

Re: Tue 14th February - Valentines Special
Don't know about you other Risk Legacy players, but I thought those two games were pretty intense. I actually got a bit stressed out by them... good thing I didn't let it show. Stressed isn't the feeling you might choose at the end of a board game night, but the game getting in my head like that is, to me, a massive point in its favour.
This legacy thing is... potent. It turns a hopeless climax in Pandemic from "Oh, I guess we won't win this one." to "Oh my god, what on earth can we do to win this?!" Likewise, in Risk, just having the wins recorded on the board has really added a new level to my involvement in the game. I don't know about you folk that have won games already, but wanting to get a win is really enough to get me wound up the wrong way.
Yeah, I keep losing. I'm clearly not playing Risk the way it should be played! — next time, though...
I don't think all this is so different from just playing the same game a bunch with the same people (forming rivalries, resentments, private vows of revenge, between games), but it's enough for me to take the game a little more seriously.
A bit like gambling, I suppose — any game can get exciting if there is something your care about outside of the game at stake.
Speaking of resentments: I swear to god, Leanne, if you take my HQ again...
Risk Legacy is also a mechanical improvement on basic Risk. For one, instead of taking a random bonus card when you conquer a territory, you can see four available territory cards, some of which are more valuable than others. You can take one if you own the territory on one of the cards, and have conquered any territory on your turn.
When a valuable territory comes up, it's more to weigh up in your strategy: that bonus might end up being more valuable than whatever plans you already had. It adds a bit more randomness, as if Risk didn't have enough of it already, but so far I love this new bonus mechanic (The cards getting more valuable are one of the permanent changes you can make between games, by the way).
Even more significant are the changed victory conditions. Instead of world domination being your goal, there are victory points!... sort of. You only need four to win the game, but there are a few ways to get them: trading in cards, taking HQs, starting with them, and [spoilers] maybe other ways too?
I'm interested to know if these changes came from, or have been re-implemented in, any of the many, many Risk variants out there. I'm not sure I could play basic Risk again (not that it was in my plans to do so).
Anyway, having a blast with Risk Legacy, really glad we started it. And all these other campaign games... I can't wait to play Seafall and Arkham Horror LCG and Netrunner "Legacy".

Does anyone have seafall? I've seen some very negative reactions to it.
Re: Tue 14th February - Valentines Special
Dave B was going to, but them backed out after the negative reviews. Seems that was wise.
