Dave B was going to, but them backed out after the negative reviews. Seems that was wise.

Technically I backed out after they wanted to add about 20% to the price due to £ crashing after Brexit - the negative reviews just convinced me not to look back later Smile

Yeah, I saw a lot enthusiasm for the game dampen in one sudden wave last year, but then I did also see Seafall on a couple of a best-of-2016 lists, and after a quick search just now I've found some positive reviews, like this one:

https://arstechnica.co.uk/gaming/2016/11/seafall-review-a-messy-flawed-amazing-board-game/

He does note his problems with the game, and they don't sound dismissible. Still, I want to think that Seafall might be misunderstood, not just crap.

That's entirely possible, plus an awful lot of people had it at the top of their "anticipated games" list for last year - and there's a difference again between "didn't live up to expectations" and crap.

Still interested in giving it a go sometime though

My interpretation on Seafall is that people went into it expecting (not unreasonably) a similar experience to Risk Legacy or Pandemic Legacy but found that it's actually a fairly heavy euro. From reviews I've seen, I think that a group going into it with eyes open to that (and who enjoy that type of game) would probably have a good time with it. FWIW, I'd be up for playing it.

I was speaking to a guy on Monday who was some way into a Seafall campaign and enjoying it. He said that a lot of people online were saying the games dragged on but all their games had been pretty quick with none going to two years (I think six rounds is one year in the game but I may be wrong) and it's been interesting and competitive all the way through.

We played Pillars of the Earth which is the 2nd time I've played it.  It has it's flaws, but I really enjoyed it anyway. Someone mentioned it was a bit dated and that's true, if it was released today you can imagine they would streamline the Craftsmen cards and have less writing on the board.  On the positive side, it is fun, fairly quick, easy to learn but still gives you lots of neat options.  It was a really tight game, I think the scores were 45, 43, 42 and 41!  Apparently it's getting reprinted next year.

I also played Ghost Blitz which made me feel like I was a caveman trying to understand the internal combustion engine!

I would also be interested in playing - I love the idea of a really heavy euro legacy game. I thought I was the only one mad enough...
Anyone else? We could club in together and purchase it?

Heavy Euro?

Legacy format?

Sounds ideal, other than already being currently committed to Pandemic and Risk Legacy campaigns.

Risk: Legacy was great last night, Sam has summed it up perfectly. Leanne kicked our arses. Twice. No love lost on Valentine's Day between her and Carl.

Likewise, though I suspect we now have enough players to require two copies! Smile

I'd be really curious to give Seafall a go, it sounds really interesting, but I can't justify spending that much time establishing if a game is rubbish or not. Too many other games to play!
