I found out today that Shire Games are closing? Anyone know any details? Is this the end of The Cast are Dice?

Re: Shire Games
Yes, it's rather sad. Nick's father died earlier in the year and (I think) his mum is now living with them but requires 24-hour care. For the past few months the shop has only been open on Saturdays and they've been stopping getting new stock in and gradually winding things down. I think that the council have wanted to demolish buildings along that street (including the shop) for some time so they were considering what to do even before the sad news.PaulC wrote:I found out today that Shire Games are closing? Nick sent out a newsletter at the weekend announcing the shop will close at the end of this month. I know he was looking for someone to take it over / open a board games cafe but I don't know if anything will happen with that.
From the newsletter:
Shire Games wrote:"We have decided that June is going to be the last month for Shire Games, mainly so that we don't have to pay anymore rent.
So everything - for this month only - is HALF PRICE!!
After that, we're going to pack away what is left and have a good think about what to do with it all. Hopefully there won't be that much!"
I think a nice way to support them is probably to buy up stock (and get some bargains) so that they don't have too much to store. I'm not sure what will happen about The Cast Are Dice. I'd be pretty sure that it won't happen this year, but perhaps in the future they may organise it again (I hope so!).
Re: Shire Games
Sad indeed.
As you suggested, a nice way to support him is to help him shift some of the stock - It seems the sale is going well, as I struggled to find much in stock that I'd even heard of, let alone wanted. Even so, I've bought a few games that may prove to be hidden gems, but are probably terrible!
I also dropped him a note, wishing him well. Cos I'm nice like that...
