I'd be up for Eldritch Horror if you don't mind explaining the rules.

More than welcome Doc. The rules are pretty straightforward. Winning generally less so.

Just a heads up - it's graduation this week at the uni so it could be a tad busy...
Re: Tuesday 18th July
But the room is still booked for us... so come 7pm - we can kick people out
.
But not out of the small room - that's still first come first serve.

I was there last night and upstairs was completely empty, other than the 4 of us. Everyone was sat outside in the beer garden, so let's hope it stays nice!

Kes, I'll get Avalon back from you some other time.
Are you going to the Rude Shipyard? Apparently they've got a board game event on the same day.
Yes, that's the plan. Since it's literally a minute from my house I thought I'd check it out. It would be good if it does become a regular thing, both for getting more people into this wonderful hobby of ours and also for my personal convenience.
How was the shipyard?

Re: Tuesday 18th July
I enjoyed playing a few lighter games last night:
Spice Road - lots of comparisons to Splendor, on first impressions I think it's better. The deck-building and combinations of cards adds an extra level of 'oh crap, I got that wrong' to the game. Definitely one to play a lot more.
Junk Art - always fun but big boards on small tables does not help.
Las Vegas - push your luck dice rolling. Played this 3 times now and I think its a great filler.
Kingdomino - might be a kid's game (note - don't overthink it guys!) but I enjoyed it and built a beautiful setting for my castle.
Thanks guys. Not around next week, hopefully I'll be around in August.

It was good. They filled the place up but it wasn't overcrowded. Lots of nice people there, most of whom I haven't met before but with a couple of familiar faces. Good food and drink available. The guys running it had brought an excellent selection of games and were happy to teach them to people.
Polly and I ended up playing Istanbul, Splendor, Nations: The Dice Game and Spyfall and I won as the spy for the first time ever.
They are apparently involved in the Treehouse cafe as well so I don't know if they'll be doing much more of this sort of thing when that is up and running. Ben at the Shipyard seemed happy with how it had gone and said he'd like to do something again but I don't think there's currently any plans to make it a regular thing.

Seafall...
So far at least it seems to me the backlash it received last year was unfair and I do wonder how much of that was the game not meeting expectations rather than being objectively bad but on the other hand we've also only played one "full" mission (along with the Prologue.
The game definitely has some problems - the graphic design, while thematic, is a bit bland. The flavour text is written in a nicely thematic script font that is quite tricky to read and the rulebook is a mess - it's confusing, has lots of missing information and it's hard to refer to when checking a rule. The layout is appalling in places and lead to us completely making a complete arse of the game-end steps. Also the Prologue, while helpful at getting the players up to speed, is a bit boring - but is very good at letting players get the basics down before their actions start to count.
In saying all that though, I really enjoyed the game - the theme is ace and the story (so far at least) is interesting and compelling. Once you get your head around the systems things move fairly quickly - the Prologue played quite slowly but we blasted through the first mission by comparison.
For the players: Below is a link to an unofficail FAQ on BGG - someone collated the responses made by the designers on various BGG posts into one place - might come in handy for the future
