Tuesday 22nd August
You know, I actually do rather want to play Caylus again already, Tom
Or if anyone wants to bring Terra Mystica or El Grande, maybe one of those?
Looking to play more Memoir '44, also.

Re: Tuesday 22nd August
Lack of interest in dungeon petz, so might just head down and see what the crack is.

Scott and PaulyG both expressed an interest in trying out Cry Havoc - would this week suit you two?

I'd be happy to play Caylus again.

Re: Tuesday 22nd August
I've had an idea for speeding up Eclipse, involving simultaneous play (2 players announcing then taking actions at same time). Well, it's not entirely my idea; it's an adaptation of the official simultaneous play option for 7 or more players. It would work with 4 or 6 players though; best to try it out first with 4 players though.

Welcome on-board - It can get pretty busy so suggest getting there for 7pm. We are looking at extending out to a different evening soon...
Re: Tuesday 22nd August
Cheers, I'll not finish work till half 7 so I'll try and get there tonight. If not tonight then next week.

Re: Tuesday 22nd August
Arkham Ritual Kickstarter has arrived! Just had a look through the rules; looks good. Think it'll work best with 5 to 7 (max) players...
Re: Tuesday 22nd August
Welcome to the new Jamie, who we ganged up in Evolution, but immediately after got schooled by when he won Istanbul in record time. Saw a few other new faces today, too. Hope you all had a fun evening
Good game of Secret Hitler. Poor Aneurin. Last week you got assassinated because nobody was listening to you, this week they listen to you and you end up electing Hitler. Think they'd best go back to assassinating you next week
Bad guys have had a string of good luck in the recent games I have played. I think I'm getting too comfortable in the fascist chair.
How did the new Arkham hidden role game go? And what made By Order of the Queen so unbearable?

By Order of the Queen, for a co-op game, featured surprisingly little co-operation... its pretty much 4 players contributing towards a common goal, with very little actual interaction between players, there is no real trading of items or heroes, you pretty much do your own thing every turn, managing the shared threats etc, but with little or nothing else... Its also mechanically very clunky, with a quite badly organised rule book.. it does feel like theres a very nice game locked in there somewhere though, it may work better at 2 players, than 4, halving the downtime, and the amount of admin tasks that need to be performed. When I get 5 minutes I'll see if there is an alternate rule set somewhere, or anything to help streamline it a bit.. The excellent art design, and amount of RPG-esque fluff, means I'll definitely give it another go.. perhaps when Im more awake, and have a lot more time, the suggested play time of 90 - 120 minutes seems possibly on the short side... I'm thinking it'll be closer to 3 hours, and probably longer on a first play.

In my defence I couldn't put Will or new-Jamie on the team. With both pretty much confirmed as good - that meant the guy next to you (couldn't remember his name) was probably bad (because on the third team he and newJamie put a fascist policy in play). I was left picking 1 out of 4 - and with me being the 3rd good player meant I had zero room for error. In hindsight knowing that the guy next to you was bad meant I could have probably assassinated him - but if I know he is bad and there is a 1 in 3 chance of him being Hitler was I better off choosing someone else...
Its that whole 3 door - you make a choice and are told the prize isn't in one of the other two doors - are you best changing your mind...
Still enjoyed it - Defiantly my favourite hidden role game and a pleasure to play with so many new people this evening.
I'm aiming to get GWT on my five and dime list (in the latter category)... so if anyone wants to play again let me know...
Re: Tuesday 22nd August
Two new games for me this week - thanks for bringing them, Tom!
Honshu is a neat little city building game - reminiscent of Kingdomino and Isle of Skye but sufficiently different and fiendishly frustrating at times.
Modern Art was a very pleasant surprise. I'm usually not a fan of auction games, but Modern Art throws enough variety and excitement into the mix to make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Yep I enjoyed both games very much, thanks Tom.
Re: Tuesday 22nd August
Modern art is good, isn't it.
I'm glad you enjoyed Honshu, despite me getting a pretty significant bit of the rules wrong. The simultaneous reveal is only for the 2-player game, apparently.
I guess that means it'll be even better when we play it properly.

Really enjoyed Cry Havoc but definitely feel I've barely scratched the surface of the game - hardly used the special abilities at all!
Re: Tuesday 22nd August
I really enjoyed it too! I like how different each faction is. The conflict mechanic is also super cool. Would definitely like to play it some more.DaveB wrote:Really enjoyed Cry Havoc but definitely feel I've barely scratched the surface of the game - hardly used the special abilities at all!

I definitely think the combat mechanic is one of the most creative things in the game - especially when you can use battle cards to futz with the objective boards - makes things a whole lot more tactical.
