24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
I'm running a 24 hour long gaming event as part of Inspiration4Lifes 24 Hour Inspire event https://inspirationforlife.co.uk/24hr-inspire-2017/.
The event aims to raise money for Rotherham Hospice and Impact Living. It's directed by a charity in memory of Tim Richardson who was a Physics lecturer at the University but died of Cancer in 2013. In 2011, before he was ill, he did a solo 24 hour lecture marathon in aid of Children in Need. It was an amazing achievement – he pushed himself to his limits, and his students and colleagues backed him all the way, keeping the lecture theatre full even in the small hours.
The I4L charity repeats this 24hour lecture-thon... but this year have asked if we can run a satellite board gaming event - I said yes.
So anyone game for helping out? It will be from 5pm on Thursday 19th April until 5pm on Friday 20th April. You don't need to commit to the full 24 hours - it will be a turn up and play/help out style thing in the Hick's building. But if you want to help please let me know and a time you could make. The event will cost £10 (all for charity) and that gets you into the board game room - any of the lectures in the 24 hour period and a free cup of tea and piece of cake.
I need a snappy title for the event...

Open to suggestions.
The plan is to get the boards over from the Uni Arms to play on. So Twilight Imperium 4 anyone?

I'd be happy to help for any amount of time. I have an office in the Hicks building (and all-time access), so if we need to temporarily store anything I do have some room.

I have some wargames that would do, and a couple that would need a bit longer too.

Day booked off work!
Wonder what the calibre of gaming will be at the 20 hour mark.

I'd like a mission to complete throughout such as play through an entire legacy game or a whole series of games on a theme. Any ideas?
Re: 24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
I'm, entirely coincidentally, on annual leave that day!
24 hours of... Mage Wars? Galaxy Truckers? Twilight Struggle? Mansions of Madness?
So many choices *explodes*

Sounds fun. If I don't take the Friday off work then I'll definitely come and visit on Thursday evening/night.

Re: 24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
Hmm good idea but I’ve already planned to play it with a friend
Re: 24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
Ok I've had a go at the Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle game and it would actually work great for this!
It took two of us six hours to play through the first five games with each one being slightly longer than the last.
I reckon with four players it could take a good chunk of time so I'm looking for three others who want to try and smash through the whole thing in one go. It's a pretty standard cooperative deck builder, easy enough that I'd suggest we increase the difficulty. I'd estimate with four it could easily take 12+ hours.
Anyone in?

Re: 24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
I guess it depends if you like deck builders! I enjoyed it but it was pretty easy. Might be harder with more people but I think a couple house rules are in order
Re: 24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
Oh looking online it looks like it’s much harder with 4 players so we can leave the difficulty alone.
Also I don’t think it increases the time much

Re: 24 Hour Board Gaming anyone? April 2018
I will have a look and let you know if I fancy it. I am not great with deck builders and 12 hours in game that I may probably be cack at could be a bit crushing for ones ego

I think that you typo'd the hyperlink, mate: ( https://inspirationforlife.co.uk/24hr-inspire-2018/ )Aneurin wrote: https://inspirationforlife.co.uk/24hr-inspire-2017/.
Anyway I'll get this shared with the uni board game club. They've done a charity event especially with RPGs society where you'd give to charity to reroll bad dice.
Inspire's Board-games Endurance Side-quest / Aside / Addition (/ lots of words that begin with "A" meaning essentially "also"), IB(G)ES , IB(G)EAAneurin wrote: I need a snappy title for the event...
I dunno, board game is a notoriously awkward phrase to make anything snappy out of. I'd say something about over analysis / paralysis but I don't find that term nor alliteration very amusing.
