Re: The Movie Thread
Good effort! A lot of this year I've been really busy so would probably have got to see more in a normal year.
Re: The Movie Thread
Has anyone been to the Curzon in town? I think they've recently lowered their prices, around £7 or £8 a film now..

Re: The Movie Thread
Yes, I have. It's quite a nice cinema, though there aren't any massive screens. Inside feels really weird, a bit like being in a deserted hotel most of the time with lots of little corridors and so on. Prices were pretty high when it first opened, good to hear they're a bit lower now. I still prefer The Showroom though.Jamie wrote:Has anyone been to the Curzon in town? We had a conversation about the Curzon just the other day Kes...
I love the Showroom and the Curzon screwed them over so boo! Hiss!

Re: The Movie Thread
It's good! Was a bit too close to the screen though, had to keep moving my head around to catch the whole picture. There's only one thing for it, I am forced to go see it again, and get a better seat, further back...

Stuff I already know I want to see:
The Hateful Eight
Creed
The Revenant
Hail, Caesar!
Anomalisa
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Captain America: Civil War
X-Men: Apocalypse
Warcraft
Star Trek Beyond
La La Land
The BFG
Bourne 5
Suicide Squad
Gambit
Doctor Strange
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Story of Your Life
Anything else?
I'm looking forward to seeing all of those, except Warcraft which holds exactly zero interest for me. In fact, I expect it to bomb at the box office, as the only people interested in seeing it will be too busy playing warcraft to find a couple of hours to go and see it. Except you, of course.

Re: The Movie Thread
Two years ago I lived ~10min from the Cineworld and worked across the road from it - and as a result it was not unheard of for me to see 2-3 films a week there (if not more).
Now I work from home and live more than twice as far away and things have dropped somewhat - averaging two-three films a month looking back over my calendar. For normal films that would be roughly the break-even point however 7 of those were IMAX shows which is a bigger saving...
To be fair with moving house and stuff it's been crazy busy (there was a three month period I didn't get to the cinema at all).
In saying that however, I like and will be keeping the card until such a point as I'm making a loss - I prefer the static cost of ~£17 per month and then having the freedom to go whenever - as with Sam I've seen stuff on a whim that I likely wouldn't have been interested in trying out had I needed to pay for it.
As for films next year...
Thats a pretty good starting point - most of those I'm definitely interested in seeing. I couldn't give half a crap about Warcraft and I'm so far very unimpressed with what little I've seen of Star Trek Beyond. I'm also kinda wary of Batman Vs Superman, although the past couple of trailers have definitely got me in the mood for it...
As for stuff missing - well the big one for me is Deadpool, which is high on my watchlist for the year. Independance Day 2 I'll probably end up checking out - while I wasn't exactly enamored of the trailer, I have a lot of cheesy B-movie love for the original.

Re: The Movie Thread
I was concerned about Star Trek beyond as soon as I saw who was directing, but I'll still see it. Deadpool I'd also on my list, and I'm sure Allie will drag me to see Independence Day too.

Re: The Movie Thread
Yeah having children means I just couldn't justify an unlimited card. I see about 3-4 films a year at the moment at the cinema. This year I think I only saw Star Wars, Inside Out and Jurassic World.
However, I am keen to get out and see the Hateful 8 in early January. So if anyone is going let me know and I'll join you one evening!

I'll be seeing Star Trek Beyond - Sannah really liked the look of the trailer and wants to see it. You never know, it might be a lot better than it looks - shitty trailer doesn't necessarily mean shitty film - however given I was very disappointed with the last one I'm very wary...
Of course, should I go in expecting a turd and actually enjoy it then all will be good

I was annoyed to miss Inside Out - I'm a big Pixar fan but it came out just before we went on holiday and there just wasn't time to see it. Since got it on BR and loved it.
I'd definitely be up for Hateful 8 in Jan - club trip?

Re: The Movie Thread
Sounds good, I'm in. Might as well do Friday 8th or Saturday 9th if people are free. I think I can do either after 7pm. If we did go on Wednesday 13th I could get somebody a free ticket.

I can't do the 7th (seeing unlimited preview of Creed that night) but the other two are fine for me. Sannah does indeed want to come too.
Re: The Movie Thread
Weds would mean free tickets for extra ppl. Kirsten and I would be up for the weds
Re: The Movie Thread
Don't you need that compare the meerkat promotion these days? If someone can get me in for half price (split the 241) I'm game for the wed. Just discoverd I cannot do the Friday anyway.
Re: The Movie Thread
I could do the wed. Busy the 8th and 9th.

Aneurin wrote:Right so Wednesday 13th... How are we doing tickets?
I can sort the booking I just need to know exactly who is coming and if there are any special instructions for each individual (ie am I booking against their unlimited card, in which case I'll need the number), is there a voucher code or something in play (I have no idea how the meerkat thing works but I recall you needed one for Orange wednesdays) in which case I'll need that etc etc etc.
Post here but PM me the voucher/card codes to use.
Its Monday morning as I type this - I'll do the booking on Wednesday evening (the 6th)
Hope the parking is less crazy than it has been recently...
