Re: King of Tokyo
Now that's a good idea - reviews of games. I do tend to scour BoardGameGeek.com whenever I want to know if I should buy a game, but the idea of club members telling each other about new games they've played is a great one.
For example, I've played Cuba recently which is a fun sub-Puerto Rico game with a lot of character and only 90 minutes. Excellent components and easy to learn.
Hey Moderators - can we have a new Forum section for "Game Reviews" ?
Actually, who are the moderators and how is this Forum and Club being run ???

Re: King of Tokyo
Hi Mike....I encourage the lads at the Gimps to write battle reviews and give views on plenty of subjects....we used to have a few sensitive types who did not like to hear other peoples views but on the whole its a positive step
...we also did an Exploration series and History corner Battle reports and encourage lads to make their own terrain ....this seems to have encouraged the lads who left the club to set up blogs and now do battle reports for themselves and even to make some of their own terrain
I like you go on the Geek to read reviews but I always like to hear more views from people who I actually game with ....good or bad
see you soon
Paul
ps as anybody played .....If Wishes were Fishes....or La Citta? .....two new aquisitions from the Works

Re: King of Tokyo
Have played if wishes were fishes (twice), it's fairly quick, should be playable in 30 mins if people don't take ages on their turn...
It's fairly straightforward, but there definitely is some strategy there. I would definitely recommend it for £8, especially with the fish meeples and gummy worms!
Would also recommend Oregon and Notre Dame if you can find these.

Re: King of Tokyo
Just got Panic Station. Hopefully bringing it to the next meet...
That had a flyer in it for an interesting game called "Killer Bunnies!"... maybe the next club purchase?
You wanna be a moderator Mike? I'll start the review section...

Re: King of Tokyo
Killer Bunnies is an alright game, it's a bit similar to munchkin, but doesn't have a degenerate endgame...
It can take a while, and sometimes you get a runaway leader problem, but it's good fun.
I think I'd enjoy it a lot more if I played with people who have an attention span greater than 5 minutes, so would be a good club purchase (:
Another game I'd suggest would be saboteur, a filler game where you play as dwarves mining for gold/being a complete nuisance. Played it once, loved it!

Re: King of Tokyo
Had a look at Killer Bunnies on BGG but seems to get mixed reviews. Its sounded great in the synopsis.
There seem to be some good games coming out of Essen this year. Some old favorites... Power Grid "First Sparks", Kingdom Builder (the Boardgame version of Dominion) and then some newbies. The Village etc. All to look forward too. As I said before I just got Panic Station. I'll bring it to the next meet.

New games from Essen - I've definitely go my eye on Colonial:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/99392/colonial-europes-empires-overseas
I also hear that "Struggle of Empires" is being redone as "Age of Reason".
Clearly Europe-dominates-the-world type games are on the rise as the Euro falls !

Re: King of Tokyo
erm... the first rule of Boardgame club is that there are no rules! I have no idea to be honest. You can be an Admin if you want... with such a small club it's not like we have to do a lot of maintenance. The hardest part was photo-shopping the banner and the buttons.
Guess as a moderator you have the power to silence Paul... once and for all!
