Website issues
Anyone else having problems with images/buttons with the forum? On IE I can't see the buttons... on Chrome I can't see avatars. I'm guessing forumotion are making some changes... Let me know what is broken for you and one of us can try and fix it!
Re: Website issues
It all seems to be working ok for me on Safari, though I am now seeing ads (I think it used to be ad-free but maybe I am imagining things?)
Re: Website issues
Yep, logged in but getting ad banners at the top of the screen (look to be through Google Ads). Not a big deal from my point of view, but obviously if it's supposed to be ad-free then they shouldn't be there!
Re: Website issues
Seemed to have a few gremlins in the works a few days back. May have not been logged in though. Seems okay now though.
Re: Website issues
Yeah I have a feeling forumotion may have been updating script etc... all seems ok now on IE
Re: Website issues
Are the post times wrong for everyone else, or is it just me?

They're wrong for me too. Yesterday I assumed it was something to do with the clocks changing, but they're still wrong.
Wrong time zone?

Re: Website issues
Yup, its posting times an hour ahead - if I had to guess this server lives in the US so the times will adjust this coming weekend
Of course, Lizzy - aren't you an admin? Are there any config options you can check to set the timezone back to GMT?

I am. And I *totally* just fixed it!!!! Without breaking anything! I think....
I've fixed the forum to be the right timezone, but everyone has to change their own personal setting.
Go to Profile > Preferences and fix it at the bottom.
Should work.

Re: Website issues
I am impossibly proud of myself.
Basically, forumotion updated the time zone management and reset everything. Apparently to random time zones.

Re: Website issues
I do sometimes wonder if it's worth advocating we host this ourselves but figure that's probably a pain I can't be bothered with

Re: Website issues
You volunteering? ;-)
I think Aneurin's paid up for the next two years anyway.

Re: Website issues
Thats kind-of my point - I spend my entire professional life bending computers to my will, I don't really like doing it on my own dime so much.
In saying that however with my recent job change I don't really do so much sysadmin stuff at work any more so I am starting to get more interested in playing at home instead
It's a moot point if we're paid up for ages but it might be worth looking into coming up to renewal time.
Downside is the cost would probably go up some, upside is we'd have a lot more control over it all.

Hmm... I changed my preferred timezone to Aruba, but I'm still in Sheffield. Stupid thing doesn't work!

I'm afraid even my extensive IT prowess can't help you there. Clearly we need a new site with teleportation capabilities.

Quick, someone get Seth Brundle on the phone!

I'm sure he won't mind if you give him a buzz. #I'mHereAllWeekDaveB wrote:Lizzy wrote:I'm afraid even my extensive IT prowess can't help you there. Clearly we need a new site with teleportation capabilities.

With jokes like that I think I'm glad I'm not

Re: Website issues
Dave - I can give you admin rights so you can play around if you like... There are plenty of behind the scenes options and we can customise pretty much everything. I don't know what 'control' we need/want beyond this. This forum was set up when echoes from the emporium closed. We had a thread on their forum. As you say - it's super low maintenance so it doesn't take up much time.
Just to play devils advocate - if you manage the site and then another job comes along what would happen?

Re: Website issues
Aneurin - I'm not offering to manage the site - for exactly the reason you say - I can't commit to running it indefinitely. Quite apart from that it's been a long time since I managed a LAMP server so I'd have a lot of homework to do
most of what I said above was more thinking aloud than anything else.
In saying that however if I can be of use in a technical capacity to help out with stuff I'm more than happy to pitch in wherever I can.

Re: Website issues
Anyone good a graphic design could redo all the buttons. I only ever got around to the Meeple image for threads
