Re: Netrunner Novices
I'd probably be interested in this - I was never able to get into Netrunner (in fact I sold my copy) but if anyone can show me what I'm missing I'd be happy to be proven wrong

Re: Netrunner Novices
Next Wed/Thurs sound good to me. Any venue preference?

Re: Netrunner Novices
Just ordered my core set and card sleeves. I imagine I'll pick up one of the deluxe expansions in a few weeks assuming I've played enough with the core set.
Shall we say 7pm, Thursday at a central pub? The Red Deer?

Re: Netrunner Novices
Last hour before bed going to try a little deck building. Don't have a lot more than the core set just 2 small expansion packs. Still a lot of choice though.

Re: Netrunner Novices
I wouldn't worry about buying all the expansions straight away, I did the same thing and really regreted it. There are so many decks you can build from just a core set. I found if you buy too many cards before you have chance to properly play the game you miss out on all the interesting meta's with just a limited card pool. There is a post on bgg that recommends a good purchasing order which I think is a second core and then what lies ahead expansion as it adds extra agendas for all the corps. Honestly save your money there is so much enjoyment in the core set it's crazy

Card Games @ Henry's, Thurs 6pm 20th November 2014
I wasn't, but usually up for extra games, especially if it's not too far to travel, so next time, hopefully.

Re: Netrunner Novices
I haven't arranged anything for this week. I'm personally not too fussed, as I've been playing a lot of games this past week. Of course, if other people are eager to play, post here and maybe one of us can arrange something. Otherwise, let's do next week (Thursday 18th). Post your availability for that date.
For the various people who have expressed an interest in learning to play over the past few weeks (and for those who have played but not managed to join us on Thursday) let us know here too. It would be cool if we could set up pairs of newbies so they can play their first few games against somebody else who is learning, refereed by somebody who knows the rules. Playing against people of the same skill level just seems to me the most enjoyable way to play any game. That's how me and Bob got into this, and it's been awesome from day one.
PS: My Shaper/Criminal Deck took Tom's Jinkteki/Haas-Bioroid deck apart tonight, jus' sayin'.

Re: Netrunner Novices
I made new Corp and Runner core decks this week. NBN and Anarch. Feeling the limitation of the core deck now, only being able to add maybe ten out of faction cards and the rest being the same cards as the pre-built decks. I just brought Future Proof because some guy on Reddit suggested in a guide it was the best one to start with (think it's the same guy nickrat mentions). I would have gone with What Lies Ahead, being the first Data Pack and also highly recommended, except it is 3x the price of the others on Amazon. The other ones I am looking at is True Colours, which also has a cool cover (v. important), and the big box expansion, Creation and Control, with loads of cards mainly for Shaper and Haas-Bioroid.
What data packs/expansions do you guys have?

Re: Netrunner Novices
I dipped my toe in the dangerous waters of buying data packs by picking one at random. I got 'Trace Amount', which includes a few nice cards, including a few extra bits of Jinteki nastiness (an agenda which is also an ambush, for example) and a card which allows a runner to score a point without stealing agendas. With every new card I see, it's interesting to try and think through how they might fit in with a deck. Obviously I was a bit like a kid in a deadly candy shop and wanted ALL THE NET DAMAGE!!!, and the deck I put together might have been a little unbalanced as a result. When I lost to Sam I think it was mainly because I couldn't get enough cash in or enough tags on him to activate all my horrible traps.
Brendan on SU&SD said that Netrunner players pretty much have two choices: go core or go mad. I know there's a lot of game just with the core box, and I also know that my bank account would not be happy if I acquired a bad card habit, but trying to work through the puzzles that different cards set you just feels... nice. I can certainly see the temptation.

Not yet sure whether we'll be playing at Henry's this week. For anyone wanting to get in touch with the wider pool of Runners in Sheffield, and generally be made aware of events, I recommend joining the Netrunner Sheffield Grid group on Facebook.

Re: Netrunner Novices
I've bowed out of Netrunner so far this year. I still think it's great, I've just been following other interests more in the last few weeks, and I'm busy for the next few weeks too. By all means, though, arrange meetups without me and I hope I'll join in with you guys more soon. I can't see the Netrunner Sheffield Grid group on Facebook but I think they meet up once a week at Patriot games, and there are plenty of good relaxed pubs around Sheffield centre (Red Deer Still my fav).
