Re: Kniziathon !
Pretty generous of them to send all those games. I'm impressed and wonder what they get out of it? More exposure?
Re: Kniziathon !
I've been wanting to play the Lord of the Rings for ages. I've got it with the Sauron and Friends and Foes expansions. I've also got Blue Moon City, Priest of Ra and Lost Cities and a couple of 2 players - Battle Line and Lord of the Rings Confrontation.
I hope I can make it.

Re: Kniziathon !
We are most definitely ON for Kniziathon on the 28th July ! See below great box of goodies that has turned up:-
1st, 2nd, 3rd place signed certificates
3 Signed photos
1 x Modern Art
1 x High Society
1 x Figaro
1 x Blue Moon City
1 x Tigris & Euphrates
Keen to get people’s input on format of the night but as a starter for 10 here’s some suggestions, thanks to Tom for the link.
• Tuesday 28th July is SBGC Kniziathon and the idea is to play Knizia games on every table all night, please bring your Knizia games and multiple copies would be great! If you can also brush up on rules to be ‘experts’ for the games you’re bringing that would be awesome!
• Prizes will be awarded at the end of the night or on the Forum over the following days depending how quickly we can tot up the scores
o 1st – Certificate + Choice of Photo + Choice of Game
o 2nd – Certificate + Choice of Photo + Choice of Game
o 3rd - Certificate + Choice of Photo + Choice of Game
o 4th Choice of Game
o 5th Choice of Game - or rather no choice as there’ll only be one left
• Any Knizia game can be played and you will need to complete a score sheet detailing player names and finishing positions to be handed in before you crack on with the next game
• Points will be calculated as per details on Knizia website, basically you get points by position and number of players and then a weighting is added for the game which Is really about the expected duration. For example coming second in a four-player game of Ra will get you 4 points and Ra carries a weighting of three so you’d get 4x3=12
• If you play multiple games of the same game ONLY your best score will count.
• The more games you play the more points you get so hopefully this will encourage ‘play to move’ rather than ‘play to win’. The official Score Sheets need signatures of two players but as were aiming for a fun night that’s more about experiencing Knizia than winning I suggest we ditch this. It’s fun when you play together.
• There’s a different system for scoring co-op games that’s on the website and ties can be calculated too
Think that’s all for now I’m happy to calculate and display running scores on the night but be great if a couple of people could also get up to speed with the format as I’m likely to need some help and its probably best if a second pair of eyes checks my point calculation ! Will really try to announce prizes at end of night if at all possible but if not will be on Forum in following days

Re: Kniziathon !
Cheers both im actually now thinking that we just collect all the score sheets and a few of us meet up after the night to calculate all the scores then people can make their choices on the forum and collect goodies following week/s that way no one has to miss out playing on the night to manage the scoring ?
Sound like a plan ?

Re: Kniziathon !
Probably needs someone organising so we don't end up with people not playing Knizia games or being left out.
Re: Kniziathon !
Yep. Probably an announcement on here and maybe mention it on preceding couple of Tuesdays to people (we could even print flyers???). One good thing about Knizia is that he has such a variety of games that there should be something to suit most tastes.Aneurin wrote:Probably needs someone organising so we don't end up with people not playing Knizia games or being left out.
Do we also want to try to figure out on this thread who can bring which games so we know what will be available? Then people can check out rules in advance and stuff if they want to.
I can bring:
- Lost Cities
- Masters Gallery
- Priests of Ra
- Strozzi
- Tigris & Euphrates

I can bring:
Priests of RA
Palazzo
and Taj Mahal
I also have Lord of The Rings... but it's co-operative - so I guess no point in bringing it really?
Are we keeping this as a "club members only" thing - or should we be making it a bit more of a THING and advertising it a bit??

Re: Kniziathon !
Presume the score system is normalised by game length? Or perhaps we should record 'playing time' for each game?

I have a feeling space could be a problem if we advertise as an event. Kes has been monitoring numbers and we are averaging 30+ per meeting at the moment...
Re: Kniziathon !
Did no one read what Jon posted earlier?!? They have a whole scoring system in place including cooperative and length
Re: Kniziathon !
I own 0 Knizia games but am looking forward to playing everyone else's.

Never did learn how to read properly.
I read that it gets multiplied by a number - presumably 5 for a long game and 1 for a short... But you can still get analysis paralysis in short games - and what about time for reading rules - both could be frustrating. Especially if you are playing to win
