If Spartacus is still happening count me in. Otherwise, I'll stand around looking forlorn until someone asks me if I want to play something.

If there's room for me I'll join in with Caverna... if not I'll bring a few games anyway and see what happens! Very Happy

I should be able to make it for the first time in a long time tonight, combination of stupidly busy with work and sometimes just wanting a night doing nothing. I've not been completely without boardgames though - two recent new plays (for me) which I really enjoyed were Goblins Inc and Roll for the Galaxy.

As ever though I will play whatever with whoever (though if Robo Rally or Colt Express are around I shall gravitate towards them)

Caverna or Spartacus would be great. I've lost track if there are spaces available.

So any thoughts/feedback on Cowboy Avalon?

Open to names for this edition... The good, the bad, and the downright sneaky?

Also what could I use for accept and reject tokens? Whiskey glasses full and empty?

red and black cards from the deck will work for mission success and failure cards...

Cowboy night was fun, hope you enjoyed it Kes!

I really like Carson City, I'm just not very good at it.

Cowboy Avalon was fun, nicely conceived Aneurin. I thought it played well, I quite like the jail mechanic as an idea and the wanted alternative to Lady of the Lake works brilliantly.

Sort those copyright issues out and publish it!

I thought we were doing a mean cowboy photo! I look like I lost a game of poker to everybody else in the saloon.

Tuesday 5th May - Page 2 11169804_980701105282321_8850729285322111110_n

Cool night, though.

I think Pokemon would make a great board game. Pokemon Master Trainer, however, was not it. I had fun geeking out with the club's other Pokemon nerds and it's put me in the mood to play Conquest or Mystery Dungeon or one of the other videogames. They should turn the trading card game into a LCG like Netrunner.

Cowboy Avalon was well thought out (though the working title should be Cowboy The Resistance). The Wanted mechanic is clever. It's the right amount of potential information, potential misdirection, complete fluff, and funniness. Should the spies try to save one of their own from being identified by Wanted-ing someone else? Should the Pinkerton Man help nab a spy? I will say that though the shoot-out mechanic is thematic (the uncertainty of the result, the potential for it to backfire), I think it would better complement the wanted mechanic, and also better fit the style of the rest of the game, if the result was certain, if the wanted player always had to reveal his loyalty, with no chance of it backfiring. As it is, as the outlaw can just take his chances in a shoot out, which might work in his favour, and then after that he has yet another chance by lying about the other player, he doesn't have to think as much about the wanted mechanic, which makes the wanted mechanic less interesting and important. Essentially, I think you should sacrifice the shoot out for the sake of the wanted mechanic, which is the more interesting and suitable rule. We could play test both ways.

I can see what you mean... about the shootouts. Yes let's play test both more Wink.

I've ordered some foam board so I'll work on making it a little more substantial over the weekend... Printing some proper wanted tokens - these will take the form of mini wanted posters.

I'm keen to keep the shootout for thematic reasons - but don't know how it could be re-introduced.

Also need an idea for accept or reject cards... What could the artwork be?

Can't believe it - I miss a week and you go and design a really interesting sounding game!

Well, ok, I'm missing about 4 weeks in a row but the point still stands.

Grave for the reject and Marshall/Sheriff badge for accept?

Full/empty whisky glass works but the shapes are a bit similar for me, no biggie.

You could always pick a clean looking cowboy face for accept and a darker meaner looking one for reject but that feels a bit like its the team cards.

Like it - or perhaps a hangman's noose for reject?

Hangman's noose! good shout. Combined with the Sheriff star as the accept they are different colouring and shape, all good!
