NSPCC event
We were contacted by someone at the NSPCC who is keen to run a charity event inspiring families to play games together to get the kids away from the TV and games consoles...
They wanted our club to support the event to give it credibility...
Anyway the event is called the really big board game day...
http://www.nspcc.org.uk/what-you-can-do/events/really-big-board-game-day/
They set the date for Friday 15th may - which is a bit daft as people will be at work... Anyway I've talked the the NSPCC lead on this project and we are in the early process of setting something up for that weekend in the city centre... Hopefully the winter Gardens... Anyone interested in helping out? I'm thinking pitchcar, haba games, king of Tokyo... Quick games we can get people to play and then ask if they would like to make a donation to the NSPCC...
I may also run something at the University (Krebs cafe) on the actual Friday... Just games at break tine etc... It's for charity - how can the uni say no
.
The NSPCC is sending me some stuff, banners, posters and T shirts and would very much like a staged photo for the website... Thinking we could do this on Sunday if the gear turns up on time...
Anyway... Let me know if you are interested in helping out... It's for a good cause.

Re: NSPCC event
Sounds like a great idea, put me down for helping out on the Saturday for a few hours. I can bring a couple of Haba games, KoT, Hey! That's My Fish, etc.

Re: NSPCC event
That's the weekend we're moving house - I can't help I'm afraid
EDIT: However, if you want to use any of my games I'll happily pass them onto someone else to bring down

Sounds great. If there's something going on on Sunday daytime then I'd be happy to help out but I don't think I could manage any of the rest of the weekend.

Re: NSPCC event
Right an update on this... In short the lady didn't get any NSPCC tee shirts and banners to me in time for a photo on Sunday - some excuse about rebranding and being off sick... Anyway she has also been unable to get a spot in the Winter Gardens for the weekend - apparently they don't let Charities do stands inside the garden (seems a bit strange/mean but anyway)...
So I've asked if she has any retail partners that would be willing to let us use some space to play games in the name of NSPCC on that weekend... still waiting to hear back but my gut feeling is this BIG BOARD GAMES DAY is all idea and no effort or substance on their part...
I really get the feeling they want us to organise everything... She is still keen on me to run something at the University... Which I might do if they can be bothered to send me branded gear... But to be quite frank I don't have the time to go hunting for free space in the city centre for the weekend event. I have suggested she should contact Waterstones - as it might actually increase their board game sales and there is always plenty of kids in there.
I could be wrong - time will tell if Claire comes through with a venue.
