Battleship Galaxies
In 2011 Hasbro released Battleship Galaxies, a space miniatures game on a hex grid. I bought a copy (well actually I think Kat bought me a copy). I've never played it. Although the game got pretty good reviews, Hasbro has never released any expansions (it was clear that they were originally planning to but I guess it didn't sell as well as they hoped). Interestingly, Colby Dauch of Plaid Hat Games was one of the designers. There's some more info about the game and how it works here.
Anyway, would anyone like to play this with me some time? It's essentially a 2-player but you can also play 2 vs 2. The miniatures look quite cool and, from the descriptions, it sounds like a pretty fun game. I'm sure it won't be giving X-Wing a run for its money but I'd like to see what it's all about...

Doesn't sound like a Hasbro model to expand a board game...
Re: Battleship Galaxies
The rules are definitely written with expansion in mind... I just found this on the PHG forums from one of the designers:
Anyway, glad there are people who will give it a try with me. I'll read the rules and set up a game some time.

But a big company like Hasbro operates on different margins than a small company like PHG. The Battleship Galaxies movie morphed into a transformer clone leaving Battleship Galaxies without a tie-in (which is a big Hasbro thing). There were also changes made to the scope of the game and method of release.
The final release sported some pretty snazzy components. It seems like a waste to me. All these cards and systems in place for expansion potential...
I wish that we could go back in time and start fresh knowing that the game would be a single box release. We could have pitched 25% of the systems we had in place solely to allow for expanding. A simpler system with more depth to the card play would have made the game self contained and more of a lasting value than the "starter set" that was released.
Anyway, glad there are people who will give it a try with me. I'll read the rules and set up a game some time.

I'm always happy to try new games.
