Tabletopia - board game environment simulator
I've just backed Tabletopia on Kickstarter. It looks very interesting - a 3D environment for playing board games on the computer (and on tablets at some point in the future). It's designed as a generic environment into which games can be "published" rather than being tailored to particular games (so it doesn't know the rules, for example). The current web-based demos are quite impressive. I'm not totally sure what it will be like to play a game in this way but I'm willing to give it a go. Anyone else backing this?

Looks interesting Paul. I imagine it could be a pretty good tool to help people who want to design or prototype their own game ideas.

Oh, yes, definitely really good for that. They have lots of pre-made components (cubes, meeples, cards, etc.) that you can drop in to a design so for a minimal-art prototype you could probably get something together fairly quickly.Jamie wrote:Looks interesting Paul. True, but if I you're playing with people you know then you can just run Skype at the same time.Aneurin wrote:be better if it had VOIP chat rather than text...
(I played iPad Catan with some friends over Google Hangout at Christmas and it worked quite well).

Which tier did u decide to back? I'm very tempted myself... I have a few game ideas that I don't have the time, resources or know how to progress with but this program looks really good.

Tabletop Simulator has been out for a while now

To be honest I've never tried it but you can supposedly make anything you want within the programme. Not sure if it's better or worse than this one on Kickstarter.

I went for the Gamesmaster tier... hopefully will get enough use out of it as I have lots of friends across the country who don't get to play games as much as they'd like to.carlbloke wrote:Which tier did u decide to back? It does look similar to Tabletop Simulator. I'm not sure how different their technical limitations and experiences are, but the thing that attracts me to Tabletopia (as someone who will use it for playing existing games rather than creating my own) is the number of publishers they've got interested and games that they've already got built and in development.
